6 degrees of separation from NonFormat to M/M Paris

I have chosen to start off with “Make A Fuss” an Exhibition created by Non Format in Barcelona. It was designed by Kjell Ekhorn and Jon Forss.  They came up with the idea by exploring the themes of Pop Culture, Fashion Imagery, Modular Typography and Iconographic sources. In the poster there is a mixture of iconographic sources that are there to give the impression of familiarity.

For my first link I have chosen the classic Mickey Mouse image as I feel that this is was one of their iconographic sources when creating the poster as they have deconstructed this image.

For my second link I have chosen the image “American Influence” by Banksy. The reason I have chosen this image because it is another way of taking the image of Mickey Mouse and putting him in a different context. The message that it is communicated is that Mickey Mouse and Ronald McDonald are representing the American people. This is a powerful piece of work and conveys the message of the damage that America caused in Hiroshima.

My third link is a brief that was set by John Brown at Citrus Publishing, which Emily Alston created, called “Beware of Fluff”. I think that is a nice follow on from the previous link.  It has been created by cutting up images of animals and putting their heads on human bodies.  This is what makes it an intriguing piece of work. It is also a good example of a well-manipulated graphic piece of work. So the link here is the animal Mickey Mouse from the previous link to the deconstruction of an animal graphically in this link.

The forth link is the logo for Mickey Mouse. I am still keeping with the Mickey Mouse theme. It is a simple and obvious logo that communicates the brand Mickey Mouse and works really well. It has very simple geometric shapes.

The fifth link is El Lissitzky, "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge". I have chosen this piece because of the geometric shapes. The previous link the Mickey Mouse logo was constructed using the simplest of shapes.

The last link is a typographic piece by M/M Paris because this has been constructed using geometric shapes very obviously so it ties in with the previous link of El Lissitzky "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge". Here is the link below. It is called Typos Dans la Ville and it is at the very bottom of the page.
